A23 Crash at Devil’s Dyke Slip Road: One Car on Fire, Traffic Gridlocked

A car fire and overturned vehicle follow a serious crash near Devil’s Dyke.

A serious four-vehicle collision involving three cars and a van occurred on the A23 near the slip road to Devil’s Dyke Road and Hove, close to Patcham, at 3:17 PM today. The crash caused one car to catch fire and another to overturn, prompting an immediate emergency response.

The A27 is currently closed in both directions, causing significant traffic delays between the A2038 Hove and A283 Shoreham. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) issued a statement confirming their involvement:

“We were called to a road traffic collision at 3:17 PM today between A23/A27 Westbound towards Devil’s Dyke Road. Road closures were put in place. Traffic has been badly affected both Eastbound and Westbound. Please avoid the area if you can. Thank you for your patience.”

Emergency services, including fire crews and police, remain on the scene, working to manage the situation and ensure public safety. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes where possible.
