Brighton Beach Rapist Jailed for Nearly Seven Years

Victim Supported by Specialist Officers After Ordeal.

A London man has been jailed after raping a vulnerable woman on Brighton beach last year. Ali Mozaffari, 37, of Golders Green Road, was caught in the act by police after witnesses reported the attack near Brighton Palace Pier early on the morning of 10 September 2023.

Police responded swiftly to the 999 calls, arresting Mozaffari at the scene. He attempted to feign unconsciousness but was quickly exposed and taken into custody. The victim was immediately supported by specialist officers.

Mozaffari pleaded guilty to rape at Lewes Crown Court on 2 February 2024. On 22 January, he was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.

Detective Constable Clare Byrnes praised the courage of the victim and the quick actions of witnesses. “Thanks to the rapid response of our officers, Mozaffari was caught in the act and taken into custody,” she said. “The victim has shown immense bravery in helping bring a dangerous predator to justice.”

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Phillips of Brighton’s Safeguarding Investigations Unit reassured the public about safety measures in place. “Brighton is a safe place, but incidents like these remind us why we take policing the night-time economy so seriously,” he said. “If you are a victim of crime, or see something suspicious, report it to us immediately.”
