Eastern Road in Brighton was closed as police attended reports of a man on scaffolding."

A section of Eastern Road in Brighton was closed on Monday, October 7, after a man scaled scaffolding surrounding a building, leading to a significant police response.

Officers attended the scene and established a cordon around the area following reports that items were being thrown from the scaffolding onto the road below, creating a potential risk to public safety.

Peter Budd, 57, who has no fixed address, was arrested later that afternoon and charged with multiple offences, including intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance, three counts of assaulting an emergency worker, and using threatening, abusive, or insulting language intended to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.

Budd appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court the following day, where he was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 5. The incident caused traffic disruption in the area, with police urging the public to avoid the location while the scene was secured.
