Brighton man charged following Trafalgar Street stabbing

A man has been taken into custody and charged following a reported stabbing on Trafalgar Street in Brighton.

Joel Elliott, 33, from Springfield Road, Brighton, was presented before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on October 24. He will remain in custody until his next court date scheduled for November 21.

Charges against Elliott include grievous bodily harm, robbery, and possession of a weapon, stemming from an incident that occurred in the early morning of October 9.

The victim claimed he was approached around 3:30am on Trafalgar Street and sustained multiple injuries from a knife during a robbery attempt.

Bystanders offered essential first aid until professional emergency responders got to the location.

From his hospital location, the injured individual expressed gratitude towards those who aided him after the assault.

Detective Inspector Donna Ward said: “After a thorough investigation by a team of officers and staff, we have managed to charge and remand a suspect.

“Members of the public should be able to walk the streets at night without the fear of violence, and we are dedicated to ensuring that those who try to infringe upon this right face consequences.

“We thank the members of the public who have assisted with our enquiries, as well as those who helped the victim in his most vulnerable moments.”
