Brighton Night Safety Marshals and Domestic Abuse & Stalking Unit celebrated in national awards

Sussex Police is delighted to announce its recognition as regional winners in the inaugural National Police Chief’s Council and College of Policing Awards, which celebrate the dedicated efforts of police officers, staff, and volunteers in combating violence against women and girls (VAWG).

This prestigious accolade follows the rigorous evaluation of over 140 submissions, assessed by a panel of experts, including representatives from various police forces and esteemed charities such as the Suzy Lamplugh Trust and SafeLives.

The distinguished regional winners comprise:

The Brighton Night Safety Marshals, whose remarkable contribution involves patrolling Brighton’s bustling nightlife. They provide an invaluable visible presence, ensuring the safety of all and safeguarding vulnerable individuals.

The Complex Domestic Abuse & Stalking Unit, a dedicated team consisting of officers and professionals from mental health and substance abuse charities. They work collaboratively to combat domestic abuse, with a specific emphasis on early intervention to comprehend and address the root causes of perpetrators’ behavior.

Superintendent Adele Tucknott, VAWG lead said: “We are proud to be recognised in these awards, which reflects our commitment to ensuring the safety of women and girls in our local communities. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our officers, staff, and volunteers who work tirelessly to combat violence against women and girls.”
