Driver arrested following late-night collision on Brighton’s Lewes Road

Around 11:56 pm on Wednesday, September 6th, a black Jaguar traveling southbound struck a pedestrian waiting at a bus stop. Emergency services swiftly arrived at the scene, and the victim, a 24-year-old local man, was transported to the hospital with severe injuries, where he remains at this time.

The Jaguar eventually came to a halt on Barcombe Road, which runs parallel to the dual carriageway. The driver, a 42-year-old woman hailing from Reigate in Surrey, failed a roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of both drink-driving and causing serious injury through dangerous driving. She is currently in police custody.

A portion of the eastbound carriageway remains closed, and drivers are advised to either avoid the area or seek alternative routes temporarily. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated during this time.

Investigations are ongoing, and the police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured it on mobile devices, dashcams, or CCTV to contact them at collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, referencing Operation Thimble.
