Emergency services were called to a fire at a ground-floor flat in Selsfield Drive, Brighton, on the evening of Friday, March 1. Multiple fire crews from across East and West Sussex attended the scene to tackle the blaze, which affected multiple floors of the building.
A spokesperson for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) confirmed:
“We were called on March 1 at 6.39pm to reports of a fire at a ground-floor flat in Selsfield Drive, Brighton.”
Firefighters from Preston Circus, Roedean, Hove, and Lewes, with additional support from West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, arrived to find smoke spreading to the upper floors. To contain the fire, crews used eight breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one main jet, and firefighting foam. Thermal imaging cameras were deployed to check for lingering hot spots, while a Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) fan was used to clear the smoke from the building.
All residents were safely accounted for. Two people were treated at the scene before being handed over to the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service for further medical attention.
Sussex Police were also in attendance, ensuring public safety, while the local authority provided assistance to any residents affected by the incident.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and a full fire investigation is now underway.
