Hooded Youths Target Brighton Buses in Repeat Attacks at Marine Gate

Sussex Police investigating group of hooded youths behind multiple bus attacks.

Police are investigating a series of dangerous attacks on Brighton and Hove buses after a group of hooded youths reportedly threw bricks at a bus near Marine Gate, Brighton.

The latest incident occurred on Thursday, 20 February, just after 7 pm, when a double-decker bus had its windows smashed by projectiles. Passengers onboard were left shaken, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The damaged bus had to be taken out of service and replaced.

According to Sussex Police, the attackers, described as youths in tracksuits with hoods up, were seen hiding in bushes near Arundel Road before launching their attack. This is not the first such incident in the area, with multiple reports of similar attacks in recent weeks.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Police are seeking information after reports of youths smashing windows on Brighton and Hove buses in the Marine Gate area of Brighton. The youths, reportedly hiding in bushes, have been using stones and bricks to target the buses in the evenings. We are patrolling the area, and anyone with information is urged to contact officers on 101, quoting serial 1037 20/2.”

Brighton and Hove Buses have confirmed they are aware of the ongoing issue and are working with police to ensure passenger and driver safety.

Include a recent attack where an object was thrown through a bus window, narrowly missing a buggy.

Phil Cassinos, Service Performance Manager at Brighton and Hove Buses, told Sussex News:

“We are investigating recent incidents of objects being thrown at vehicles in the Marina area. We take the safety of our passengers and drivers very seriously. Our control team is monitoring the situation on the ground, and we are working closely with the police.”

Residents and passengers are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
