Police appeal for witnesses and CCTV footage following early morning incident.

A vehicle has been seized as detectives continue to investigate a kidnap in Hove.

The car was found unattended by police in the Brighton area late on Monday evening (5 August), and our enquiries are ongoing to confirm if this was the vehicle involved in the incident.

The discovery follows extensive enquiries by officers, who remain committed to identifying and locating the person responsible for the attack.

Police are investigating a report of a kidnapping involving a woman in Hove during the early hours of Monday, 5 August, and are appealing for any information that could assist their inquiry.

According to the police report, the incident occurred at approximately 2 am. The driver of a dark-coloured Mini car, which was parked at the corner of Selborne Road and Church Road, engaged a woman walking past by asking for directions. After this brief interaction, the driver exited the vehicle, grabbed the woman, and forcibly pulled her into the car. Fortunately, the woman managed to escape from the vehicle after a short distance, and the car drove off.

The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital, where she is receiving support from specially trained officers.

The suspect is described as wearing a black tracksuit, a black baseball cap, and a black balaclava.

Superintendent Petra Lazar commented, “This is a fast-moving investigation, and every effort is being made to trace the vehicle and the suspect. We are appealing for information from any witnesses or from any residents or businesses in the area who have CCTV footage or ring doorbell footage of the incident.”

She further added, “We are aware that the community will be alarmed and concerned about this incident, and we have increased police patrols and presence in the area. Anyone with concerns or any information can speak to those officers.”

Anyone with information that can help the investigation is urged to report online or call 101, quoting Operation Grangeway.
