Brighton welcomed the Brighton Marathon today (2 April), as over 10,000 runners participated in the BM10K and Brighton Marathon.
By 4pm over 7,000 participants had completed the iconic Brighton Marathon, cheered on by enthusiastic crowds lining the 26.2-mile route. The event featured a new Finish Line at Hove Lawns, adding to the excitement of the event. A total of 130 charities were represented at the event. It was organised this year by London Marathon Events (LME) for the first time.
Helen Reid emerged as the first female finisher, clocking a time of 2:55:11. Reid, who had a minor injury leading up to the race, was surprised by her performance. “It was a great event with fantastic support,” she said.
Meanwhile, the men’s category was won by Marshall Smith from Ashford AC, who completed the marathon in an impressive 2:24:07. The 22-year-old, making his marathon debut.
The Brighton Marathon Weekend has become a highlight of the city’s calendar, attracting runners and spectators from across the world.
