Man arrested for dangerous driving after late-night pursuit in Brighton

A man has been apprehended by the police in connection with a suspected case of dangerous driving that transpired in the early hours of Sunday, October 15.

Shortly after midnight, a vehicle failed to comply with officers’ attempts to stop it in St James’s Street, Brighton.

Police units successfully halted the vehicle on the A27 near the Beddingham roundabout.

The driver, a 30-year-old individual from Eastbourne, has been taken into custody on suspicion of multiple offenses, including failing to stop, dangerous driving, and exceeding the legal alcohol limit.

As of now, he remains detained by the police.

During the course of this incident, a collision occurred involving a police vehicle and a passenger who exited the suspect’s vehicle at the intersection of Sutton Avenue and Arundel Road West in Peacehaven.

A woman sustained a serious injury and was initially transported to the hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.

Sussex Police is conducting a thorough review of the incident, and due to the involvement of police contact resulting in an injury, it has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in accordance with standard protocol.

Meanwhile, the police are urging anyone who possesses pertinent information, such as CCTV footage or dash cam recordings, to send an email to collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, referencing Operation Poplar.
