Man assaults emergency worker after hitting and strangling woman in Brighton

A woman in her 20s is fighting for her life after being hit by a car in Brighton early on Saturday morning (August 19). The incident happened on Whitehawk Crescent around 6am and the woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Police arrested a 26 year-old man at the scene on suspicion of several offences, including dangerous driving, drink driving, strangulation and assaulting an emergency worker. He is still in custody while the investigation continues.

The road is closed as officers examine the scene and collect evidence. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has any relevant footage to get in touch online or by calling 101 and quoting Operation Bromley.
