Sussex Police has charged two people in connection with serious offences involving a two-year-old girl in Brighton.
Officers launched an investigation after receiving a report on 16 March 2021 that a young girl had suffered significant injuries. The child was immediately safeguarded, and a man and a woman were arrested.
Jack Winstanley, 22, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted rape of a girl under 13 and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Appearing at Hove Crown Court on Wednesday (26 February), he entered no plea and is set to reappear at the same court on 28 May.
Amy Baker, 24, from the Hanover area of Brighton, has been charged with child neglect causing unnecessary suffering or injury. She pleaded guilty at the same hearing and will be sentenced on 28 May.
Sussex Police continues its investigation, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
