Emergency services were called to a serious road traffic collision on the A259 Marine Drive in Brighton during the early hours of this morning (7 September). The incident occurred at the junction with Arundel Road just before 3 am, involving a car and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 20-year-old man, was immediately rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital at this time.
The driver, a 59-year-old man, was uninjured in the crash but has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Sussex Police are appealing for any witnesses or those with relevant information, such as dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage, to assist with their inquiries. Temporary road closures were implemented following the incident, but the road has since reopened. Officers have expressed their gratitude to the public for their patience during the disruption.
