Police Appeal After 19-Year-Old Man Raped in Brighton

Images Released of Two Men Wanted in Connection with Steine Lane Assault

Sussex Police have issued an urgent appeal following the rape of a 19-year-old man in Brighton. Authorities have released images of two men sought in connection with the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 21.

The victim reported being approached by two unknown men near Harry Ramsden’s restaurant in Old Steine at around 3:30 a.m. The suspects led him to Steine Lane, where the assault took place. The victim later sought help from a passer-by, who promptly alerted the police. He is now being supported by specially trained officers as the investigation intensifies.

Appeal for Witnesses in Steine Lane Case

Detective Inspector Sean Booth, leading the investigation, described the attack as “deeply concerning” and emphasized the importance of community support in identifying the perpetrators.

“Steine Lane is a commonly used path connecting East Street to Old Steine, frequented by both day and night visitors due to its convenience as a cut-through,” Booth stated. “We are aware that there were several people in the vicinity during the time of the incident, and we urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward.”

The police are particularly urging anyone who recognizes the individuals in the released images to assist in their inquiries.

“Your information could be key as we work to bring those responsible to justice,” Booth added.

Operation Attach: Reporting Information

Police have launched Operation Attach to coordinate efforts around this case. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Sussex Police via their online portal or by calling 101, quoting the operation name.

Det Insp Booth reaffirmed the force’s commitment to addressing crimes of this nature: “There is no place for sexual violence in Sussex, and we take any reports of this nature extremely seriously.”
