This afternoon (15th July) the Royal Albion hotel near Brighton Palace Pier has caught fire. Readers have told Sussex News that flames were originally visible on the 4th floor of the building. Now it appears that the fire has spread to the hotels roof.
18 appliances are believed to be currently on scene including an aerial appliance and appliances from other counties. South East Coast Ambulance Service (SEACAB) incident response unit is also in attendance.
On social media ESFRS commented: “We were called at 17:24 to a fire on Old Steine, Brighton. Currently we have six appliances and an Ariel Ladder Platform in attendance. Please close windows and doors and avoid the area.”
In a statement ESFRS confirmed that: “”Four breathing apparatus wearers are using two main jets and an Ariel Ladder Platform to extinguish the fire.
“The Old Steine and part of Kings Road have been closed while the incident is ongoing.
“We are asking the public to please avoid the area and find alternative routes of travel.”
Sussex Police at 9 pm released this statement: “We are continuing to support the fire service at the Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton.
Residents and businesses nearby are asked to close their windows and doors as the windy weather is spreading smoke around the area.
The Old Steine and part of Kings Road remain closed.”
