Shoreham lifeboat crew had a busy Monday evening when they were launched to search for a kayaker who was overdue on his planned trip along the River Adur. The kayaker was eventually located towards the end of Emerald Quay, tired and cold. The lifeboat crew brought him aboard and transported him back to Shoreham Sailing Club, where he had launched from.

Shortly after, the lifeboat was tasked to assist a woman in distress in the water, initially reported as having fallen off the Brighton Palace Pier. Upon arriving on scene, the crew discovered that a swimmer had already recovered her and brought her safely back to shore. The woman had been swimming and got caught in a current, causing her to struggle. She had not fallen from the pier as initially reported.

The lifeboat crew checked the area and stood by for a while before being stood down by the coastguard. Thanks to the quick actions of the Shoreham lifeboat crew and the swimmer who assisted the woman in distress, both individuals were brought to safety.
