On Thursday (July 20th), Shoreham ILB inshore lifeboat was launched in response to a report of a person entering into the water at Brighton Palace Pier. Also Brighton lifeboat, Coastguard rescue 175 helicopter, and Shoreham and Littlehampton coastguard rescue teams were also launched to carry out a search of the area. However, it was soon established that the casualty was out of the water and in the care of ambulance medics and police, and the search was stood down.

The incident occurred following a report of a fight on Brighton Palace Pier at 7.15 pm involving two boys aged 16 and a boy aged 17. Two of them were detained by officers when they attended the pier, but one of the boys jumped into the water. The boy then swam ashore and was arrested. All three were arrested on suspicion of assault, affray, and criminal damage and remain in custody.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to report online quoting serial 1529 of 20/07,” said a spokesperson for the police.

Shoreham Coastguard added “Tasked along with Newhaven CG, Shoreham RNLI and Coastguard rescue Helicopter to report of a person in the water at Brighton pier. Team arrived and carried out a hasty search of the area with Shoreham RNLI ILB. It was soon established that casualty was out of water and in safe hands. Team stood down and returned to station.”
