A man who had been reported missing after going swimming off Brighton’s coast was found safe and well yesterday, following an extensive search conducted by the HM Coastguard and other emergency services.
The incident unfolded on Thursday, June 15, when the man’s disappearance prompted immediate action from the HM Coastguard. Alongside their search and rescue helicopter from Lydd, two RNLI lifeboats from Brighton and Shoreham were dispatched to comb the waters in an effort to locate the missing swimmer.

Sussex Police were also brought in to assist with the search effort, coordinating their efforts with the coastguard teams.
Fortunately, shortly before 8.15 pm, the missing swimmer was located safe and well.
A spokesperson for the RNLI told SussexNews “Brighton’s ILB and Shoreham’s ALB were tasked yesterday evening around 8pm to reports of a missing swimmer east of Brighton Pier. Brighton was stood down just before launch and Shoreham continued the search along with HMCG helicopter 175. Both assets were then stood down as soon as Sussex Police established that the person had left the water earlier and was safe.”
