Woman Rescued from Freezing 8°C Waters Near Brighton Palace Pier

In freezing sea temperatures of just 8°C, a woman was rescued from the water near Brighton’s Palace Pier in the early hours of this morning.

Brighton lifeboat and local coastguard teams were called at 1:45 AM following reports from that a person was in distress in the water. The Brighton Beach Patrol raised the alarm after being told a female might be near the waters edge. Mobile security patrols attended the scene along with Sussex Police and working together to bring the individual to safety.

The woman was successfully rescued and handed over to the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb). Her condition and the circumstances leading to her being in the water have not been disclosed.

A spokesperson for Hm Coastguard told Sussex News “HM Coastguard assisted Sussex Police with an incident at Brighton Seafront. Alerted shortly before 1.45am on Saturday 4 January, Newhaven and Shoreham Coastguard Rescue Teams were tasked alongside Brighton RNLI lifeboat. The person was handed to the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service.”

Brighton beach patrol only announced recently the expansion of Brighton Beach Patrol’s operational areas on Fridays and Saturdays 22:00 – 04:00, Since 2015, the patrolling efforts have covered Pier to Pier, from this Friday, in partnership with Resolve Security and The Street Safety Marshals, They are able to extend our reach to the East of the pier, providing enhanced support to individuals in need in another key area of the city.

Authorities urge anyone who sees someone in distress in the water to immediately call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
