£1,000 Stolen from Elderly Woman’s Trolley in Battle

Suspects observed tampering with shopping trolley before cash vanished.

Sussex Police are investigating a theft reported on December 14, where £1,000 was stolen from an elderly woman’s shopping trolley in Battle High Street. Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The incident occurred shortly after the victim withdrew cash from a local bank. Two male suspects were observed acting suspiciously near the victim, crouching and appearing to tamper with her trolley. The stolen cash, which was stored in a white envelope, was later found missing.

Suspects Followed Victim After Cash Withdrawal

Investigators believe the suspects may have targeted the victim after noticing her withdrawing the money from the bank. This has prompted a fresh warning from police for residents to take extra precautions when handling large sums of cash.

Police are advising individuals to secure cash in a concealed pocket, bag, or purse, preferably under a coat, or to consider having a trusted companion accompany them for bank transactions. These measures can help deter opportunistic thefts like this one.

How You Can Help

Sussex Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in identifying the suspects. If you were in the area at the time or noticed any suspicious behavior in Battle High Street on December 12, you are encouraged to contact the police immediately.
