
Monday morning, a devastating fire broke out in a derelict nursing home building on Plawhatch Lane in Sharpthorne, near East Grinstead, sending plumes of thick smoke into the air.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS) swiftly responded to the incident with crews from Turners Hill, East Grinstead Fire Haywards Heath Fire Station Crawley Fire Station Burgess Hill Fire Station Horsham Fire Station, and East Sussex mobilised.

According to a statement posted on social media by WSFRS, immediately mobilised multiple crews to tackle the blaze. “We are dealing with a fire involving a property off Plawhatch Lane near Sharpthorne. If you live nearby, please keep your windows and doors closed,” the statement read. Additionally, motorists were requested to avoid the area to facilitate the firefighting operation and ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, swiftly deployed three main jets, two fognail branches, and a hydrant to combat the intense flames.
