In response to an alarming increase in motorcycle thefts across the Eastbourne area, Sussex police have initiated Operation Terrain. The operation aims to identify and apprehend those responsible for the recent surge in stolen motorcycles, urging local businesses and residents to provide any information they may have.
PC Douglas Moyes highlighted the growing number of motorcycle thefts in the region over the past five months. The modus operandi typically involves two suspects, often wearing balaclavas, arriving on a motorcycle. They target specific bikes by tampering with the steering lock, quickly hot-wiring the stolen motorcycle, and making a rapid escape from the scene in just over a minute.
To combat the issue, targeted patrols are being conducted in known hotspots, with a focus on gathering intelligence and apprehending offenders whenever possible. Authorities are keen to receive any information the public may possess regarding these thefts.
The motorcycles predominantly targeted are 125cc and lower-powered vehicles located in the town center and the roads surrounding Seaside. Motorcycle owners are advised to enhance security measures by double-locking and chaining their bikes securely. If feasible, storing them out of sight and installing CCTV systems are additional precautions that can deter thieves.
Sussex police urge the public to report any suspicious behavior or abandoned motorcycles. Every piece of information plays a crucial role in the ongoing efforts to combat motorcycle theft.
Those with pertinent information are encouraged to contact the police online or call 101, quoting Operation Terrain.
