A man who terrorized a 24-year-old woman with a series of unsettling gifts and cryptic messages over nearly a year has admitted to stalking charges. Mason Rogers, 22, of Eastbourne, pleaded guilty to causing serious alarm and distress at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on January 10.
Rogers began his campaign in February 2024, leaving a Valentine’s Day figurine in a bag outside the victim’s Hailsham home. Months later, he escalated his actions by delivering a book tied to the victim’s childhood interests, wrapped in birthday paper, with a card referencing “six months and seventeen days” since his first act. The card also included a QR code linking to a video from the TV show My Stalker.
In December, a more chilling package arrived containing a doorbell camera, another camera for the victim’s home, and a note marking “ten months and sixteen days” since the stalking began. CCTV footage revealed the suspect wearing disguises, including a Spiderman mask and a baseball cap.
Police Investigations Uncover Disturbing Evidence
Following the victim’s report, police identified Rogers as the suspect. A search of his home uncovered the victim’s name and address, wrapping paper matching the packages, and a diary with detailed notes about the victim’s life and plans for future gifts. Rogers refused to comment during police interviews and has been remanded in custody, with sentencing scheduled for January 31.
Victim Praised for Bravery
Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Lewis of Sussex Police called Rogers’ behavior “deeply concerning” and commended the victim’s courage in reporting the stalking. “Her bravery has helped ensure this offender is held accountable,” she said.
Sussex Police’s Complex Domestic Abuse and Stalking Unit (CDASU) supported the investigation, working with partner organization Veritas Justice to provide guidance and resources to the victim. The force encourages victims of stalking to report incidents online or via 101, urging them to call 999 in emergencies.
