A Hailsham man has been convicted of murder after driving a car into a group of people, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old local man, Jack Field.
Kyle Dumble, 27, of no fixed address, was found guilty at Hove Trial Centre on Friday, 24 January, of murder, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, and driving while disqualified and uninsured.
Fatal Incident in Hailsham
Emergency services were called to Western Road, Hailsham, on 18 November 2023, at around 11 pm, following reports of a man struck by a car. The vehicle, a black Mitsubishi Shogun driven by Dumble, fled the scene before authorities arrived.
Jack Field was found critically injured and tragically died from his injuries. Another man suffered severe bruising in the incident.
Investigations revealed that Jack and his friends were involved in an altercation with the occupants of the Shogun. Witnesses described Dumble revving the engine, mounting the pavement, and driving directly at the group. He repeatedly drove forwards and reversed into them before fleeing.
Dumble turned himself in to police 24 hours later and was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was subsequently charged and remanded in custody.
Family Tribute to Jack Field
Jack’s family paid a heartfelt tribute, saying:
“Jack was a loving son, brother and friend. He was the most selfless, respectful gentleman who would do anything for anyone… He has left a gaping hole which will never be filled but we will hold him in our hearts forever.
“Although nothing can bring Jack back, we are pleased he has got the justice he deserves.”
Detective’s Statement
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell called the act “senseless” and commended the investigative team:
“Kyle Dumble turned his car into a deadly weapon that night in November… This has been a complex investigation, and I would like to thank the investigative team for their hard work in bringing Dumble to justice.”
Dumble has been remanded in custody and will face sentencing on Monday, 27 January.
