Mayfield funfair altercation results in nine arrests

Sussex Police are seeking individuals who may have witnessed an incident of disorder at a funfair event in Mayfield on the night of September 16th. In response to a request for assistance from the event’s private security, police intervened at King George Field.

During the intervention, nine teenagers were apprehended on suspicion of various offenses, including assaulting an emergency worker, public order violations, and non-compliance with a dispersal order. Subsequently, three of those detained were released, while the remaining six were granted bail with conditions barring them from returning to the area.

In the course of the operation, officers encountered resistance from a group of young individuals, necessitating the use of incapacitant spray for self-defense. Regrettably, one officer sustained a severe facial injury and required hospitalization.

Inspector Matt Chapman said: “We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incidents in Mayfield on Saturday night or has any information about those involved.

“A dispersal order was put in place in the area aimed at preventing groups from gathering and committing offences and that remains in place on Sunday (17 September). We will have a continued police presence in the area and the dispersal order will be enforced as necessary.”

Any witnesses should report online or ring 101 quoting serial 1172 of 16/09.
