Police Renew Appeal for Information on Hastings Sexual Assault

A woman was assaulted near Priory Meadow bus stops on February 12.

Police investigating a sexual assault in Hastings have issued a renewed appeal for information following the release of a new CCTV image of a man officers wish to speak with.

The incident occurred on 12 February at around 2.15pm on Queen’s Road, near the Priory Meadow bus stops in the town centre. A local woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, reported being approached from behind by a man unknown to her before being sexually assaulted by touching.

The victim was left shaken by the incident and has since been receiving support from specially trained officers.

Following ongoing enquiries, Sussex Police have ruled out a man previously shown in an appeal issued on March 2, confirming that he faces no further police action. Investigators have now released a new CCTV image of another man they wish to speak with in connection to the case.

Description of the Man Sought

The man is described as being in his late 30s or 40s, with a grey beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing:

  • A purple baseball hat worn backwards with the word ‘BOY’ written in white capital letters.
  • A long black overcoat over a black jacket and a light-coloured fleece.
  • Black trousers or tracksuit bottoms.
  • White trainers with a gold and blue trim.
  • He was also carrying a grey rucksack.

Police are urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward, particularly those who recognise the man or may have relevant CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time.

Anyone with information can report it to Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1170 of 12/02.
