A group of offenders from London have been sentenced following a violent burglary at a property in Seaford.
The burglary occurred on 7 January at a home in Coxwell Close. Police reported that two men, Remy Cadoret and Romeo Dankwa, along with a 15-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, forced their way into the property. One of the males was believed to be armed with a knife and assaulted a man inside the home.
During the burglary, the group stole bank cards, cash, and various electronics. Acting swiftly on intelligence, Sussex Police identified the vehicle used for their escape. A high-speed pursuit followed, ending with the group crashing the car. They were subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated burglary.
Following a three-week trial at Brighton Crown Court, which began on 24 June, Cadoret, 20, of Mayola Road, Hackney, and Dankwa, 20, of Walford Road, Hackney, were found guilty. The 15-year-old from Bromley had already pleaded guilty at Liverpool Youth Court on 18 June and was referred to the Youth Offender Panel.
On 20 September, Cadoret and Dankwa were sentenced to 42 months in prison at Lewes Crown Court.
Detective Constable Steven Pittman, who was involved in the case, stated, “Sussex Police takes a firm stance on violent offenders and this result shows our commitment to putting those responsible in front of the courts.”
He added: “The group caused huge distress and trauma for the victims. No one should have to suffer a crime of this sort, let alone in their own home. I hope we can bring some peace to the victims now they are behind bars, and I hope this will be a deterrent to those thinking of committing an offence.”
