A fire broke out at a derelict house on the A267 near Horam Golf Club on the evening of 2 January 2025. The property, still owned by a person now in care, remains filled with their furniture and belongings, adding complexity to the situation.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at 7:23 PM following reports of the fire. The initial response included three fire engines and officers, with crews from both Heathfield and Hailsham working diligently to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the entire building.
Local authorities, including Sussex Police, temporarily closed a stretch of the A267 to manage traffic and ensure public safety. Residents nearby were urged to keep doors and windows closed due to significant smoke in the area.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries. The fire has now been extinguished, and firefighters have ensured there are no remaining hotspots. The road has since reopened, and traffic is flowing as normal.
