This evening, emergency services were urgently mobilized to the exit of the Beacon Shopping Centre car park in Eastbourne following a serious incident where a car exited the car park and crashed into a nearby house. The impact was severe, with the vehicle ending up 50% inside the property.
Emergency response teams from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS), South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb), and Sussex Police were swiftly on the scene. As a precautionary measure, the road has been closed to facilitate the recovery of the vehicle and to ensure the structural safety of the building.
Fortunately, early reports indicate that there were no serious injuries. However, the situation was described as challenging, with the car being difficult to remove from the building.
A spokesperson for ESFRS provided further details, stating: “East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at 7.05pm on 28 August 2024 to reports of a car hitting a wall in Eastbourne. Crews were sent to the scene in Tideswell Road. The driver and two occupants of the house needed assistance. Police and ambulance were also called to the scene. The car couldn’t be easily removed from the building. Our Technical Rescue Unit and crews helped make the area safer before handing it over to the police to manage recovery. A reinspection will take place at around 10.30pm.”
The incident is still under investigation, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
