This Monday, June 17, 2024, an easyJet flight from London Gatwick to Malta declared an emergency and was diverted to Lyon. Flight #U28761, which departed from London Gatwick Airport about an hour late at 07:43 BST due to a missed slot and subsequent air traffic control delays, experienced an in-flight emergency more than an hour into its journey.
While cruising at 37,000 feet, the crew declared an emergency and requested an immediate diversion. The Airbus A319, registered as G-EZFV, landed safely at Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport.
An easyJet spokesperson told Sussex News, “We can confirm that flight EZY8761 from London Gatwick to Malta today diverted to Lyon due to a passenger onboard requiring urgent medical assistance. The passenger was met in Lyon by medical services, and the flight continued to Malta.”
