HM Coastguard ceased its search efforts Tuesday afternoon for an individual who was reportedly in distress in the waters off West Wittering Monday night.
The search operation, initiated following an alert at approximately 8 pm on Monday, September 4, spanned throughout the night and into the early afternoon.
It involved the collaborative efforts of Coastguard Rescue Teams from Hayling, Hill Head, Portsmouth, Selsey, Lymington, and Littlehampton, in conjunction with HM Coastguard helicopters from Lee-on-the-Solent and Lydd, two HM Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft, RNLI lifeboats from Bembridge, Selsey, Hayling, and Portsmouth, as well as the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service lifeboat. Additional support was generously offered by passing vessels, Sussex Police, and local harbor authorities.
