ESFRS responds to ferry fire in Newhaven

In the early hours of October 8th, the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) sprang into action following reports of a ship fire at Newhaven Harbour. The call came in at 05:18 am, prompting an immediate response from firefighters.

Teams from multiple stations, including Newhaven, Lewes, Roedean, and Preston Circus, promptly arrived at the scene. Upon reaching the location, the firefighters discovered that the fire had already been successfully extinguished.

A spokesperson for ESFRS said “Firefighters from Newhaven, Lewes, Roedean and Preston Circus were in attendance. On arrival crews established that the fire had been extinguished. An assessment of the fire was made to establish that it had been extinguished.

There were no casualties reported and all passengers had disembarked the ferry.

All appliances left the scene by approximately 06:35am”
