The incident unfolded when members of the public alerted the coastguard to a jet skier struggling to stay afloat in the water. Recognising the urgency, emergency services were immediately mobilized to the scene.

Littlehampton Lifeboat raced to the location to offer immediate assistance. Simultaneously, HM Coastguard, Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service, and an air ambulance were dispatched.

An RNLI spokeswoman confirmed the collaboration among the agencies, stating, “HM Coastguard, Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service, and an air ambulance responded to reports of a man separated from his jet ski off Goring-by-Sea on May 29.”

Approximately at 6 pm, a Coastguard Rescue Team from Littlehampton and a lifeboat from Littlehampton RNLI arrived at the scene, joining forces to aid the distressed jet skier.

Despite the valiant efforts of the emergency responders, the situation took a heartbreaking turn. A spokesman for Sussex Police revealed, “Emergency services responded to a report of a medical incident in the sea shortly before 6 pm on Monday, May 29. A 26-year-old man was taken to the hospital, where, sadly, he was later declared deceased. His next of kin have been notified.”
