On Thursday night, emergency services conducted a major search for a man reported to have entered the water at Hove. The search involved the deployment of both Shoreham Lifeboats, the Brighton lifeboat, the coastguard rescue 176 helicopter, Shoreham and Newhaven coastguard teams, and Sussex police.
Despite the freezing temperatures, the teams searched the sea and shoreline from Worthing to Brighton for more than four hours. However, their efforts yielded no results, and the operation was eventually stood down at 2am this morning.
The emergency services have reminded the public to exercise caution when near the water and to call the emergency services if they witness any incidents or suspicious activity.
