Newhaven and Eastbourne RNLI brings stranded yacht to safety

s

In the early hours of Monday morning, the volunteer crew of Eastbourne’s RNLI station was called into action as their pagers sounded the alarm at 3 a.m. Responding, they launched the formidable Trent Class All Weather lifeboat, answering a call for assistance from Newhaven Lifeboat Station – RNLI.

Their task was to take over the towing of a distressed yacht, which had encountered mechanical difficulties. Meeting approximately a mile offshore near Holywell, the crew transferred one of their own to the troubled vessel before commencing the tow, they safely guided the yacht into the protective embrace of Sovereign Harbour.
