Three Arrested Following Rooftop Standoff in Eastbourne

The incident followed an assault report in Crowborough, leading to a dramatic scene in Eastbourne.

Three individuals have been arrested following a prolonged rooftop standoff with police in Eastbourne on Friday, August 23rd.

The incident began with a report of an assault at a residence in Crowborough around 8 p.m. on Thursday. In response, officers attended an address in Eastbourne shortly after midnight on Friday to arrest a suspect. However, upon their arrival, two men climbed onto the roof of a building on Green Street, leading to a tense standoff.

Specialist negotiators were deployed to the scene, engaging with the men throughout Friday. The standoff continued for several hours before the pair safely descended from the roof at approximately 3 p.m.

A 29-year-old man from Crowborough has been arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage, obstruction of police, and two counts of theft. A 20-year-old man from Eastbourne was also arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm, two counts of criminal damage, obstruction of police, and theft of a motor vehicle. Additionally, a 54-year-old woman from Eastbourne was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police.

All three individuals remain in custody as investigations continue.

Road closures were implemented in the area as a precaution to ensure the safety of both the public and those involved.

The police have thanked local residents and the wider public for their patience and understanding during the resolution of this incident.
