A Sussex town wins the biggest ever postcode lottery of £16.9 Million

Christmas has come early for hundreds of neighbours in Goring-by-Sea after sharing a multi-million-pound lottery prize.

Yesterday the Post Code lottery announced the postcode area of BN12 4 as the winner of the £16.9 Million prize. With 718 people picking up a cheque, it means around one in ten Goring-by-Sea residents won.

Twelve neighbours in the full winning postcode of BN12 4TR won £379,062 for every ticket they played with.

Jason Donovan, the latest People’s Postcode Lottery Presenter, surprised some of the winners on their doorsteps with the good news.

The big winners included:

  • Nicki, a Jason Donovan fan whose partner has recently been made redundant
  • Lily, a grandmother who has lived at the postcode for over 40 years
  • Wendy, who said her “wildest dreams have come true”

Trip Of A Lifetime

Other winners in the postcode area included single mum Stacey whose son has leukaemia. Stacey won £14,816 and plans to use the money to go on the trip of a lifetime.

She said, I’ve got 7-year-old twin sons, Phoenix and Elliot. Phoenix has leukaemia. He’s got a year and a half of treatment and then I’ve promised them both we’ll go on a huge trip of a lifetime. This is going to help a lot.

“I think it might end up being an American road trip, visiting NASA and then ending up in Disney World in Florida.”

Prize amounts for our other winners across the postcode sector ranged from £14,816 to £44,448, depending on the number of tickets they played with.

People’s Postcode Lottery Presenter Jason Donovan said, It was fantastic surprising so many lucky winners by arriving on their doorstep and presenting them with a golden envelope and a huge cheque!

“The atmosphere was electric and I loved hearing everyone’s plans for their winnings.

“Christmas has definitely come early to Goring-by-Sea!”

The Postcode Lottery said

“This prize is part of a draw promoted on behalf of Postcode Justice Trust. Supported by our players, this trust delivers grant funding to organisations that help improve lives by delivering justice, human rights and equality. Benefiting charities include Helen Bamber Foundation, Women for Women International and Amnesty International UK.”

“Home-Start Arun, Worthing & Adur is a nearby good cause that players have helped to support. Earlier this year it received £17,830 to provide practical and emotional support to families with young children, helping give them the best possible start in life.”

“With People’s Postcode Lottery, 33% of the ticket price goes to charities and good causes. Our players have funded thousands of deserving projects and raised more than £1 Billion for community groups and charitable organisations.”
