Brighton news 2022 – in pictures

This year as ever has been a busy one for both Sussex News and for Brighton. From protests to violent crime, our team has tried our hardest to keep you up to date with breaking news from our unique city.

Our Brighton and Hove photographer William Whitty (@Thewhittyphoto) has put together this brief round up some of story’s he captured in the city in 2022.

He commented: “This is a short collection of editorial shots I’ve taken in Brighton throughout 2022. These are not meant to show the the ‘biggest’ stories, or even what I believe is my best work, but rather the moments that stood out in my mind from the last 12 months. January:

Kill the Bill protesters. One of several protests against the “Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022.” early in the year.

February:

Fire fighter enters building wearing breathing apparatus after an incident in a commercial kitchen near East Street.

March:

Sign against the brutal war in Ukraine held up at a protest in front of Palace Pier.

April:

Collision Investigator working as the sun rises after a serous RTC on A259.

May:

A ‘burner phone’ in a police evidence bag after a bus was ‘shot’ at on western road. A man was found later by police who was believed to have been stabbed during the attack.

June:

PCSO manning a corden at Queens Park after a woman was found deceased in unexplained circumstances near the clocktower.

July:

Protester in ‘Black bloc’ at Reclaim Pride on the Level.

August:

Sign memorising local icon George Montague ‘the oldest gay in the village’ at 2022 Pride.

September:

Lone protester at King Charles proclamation declaration – Grand Pavilion Gardens

October:

Counter terrorism officers donning night vision goggles attend a kidnapping on the Ditchling road.

November:

Firearms officers ‘Box in’ a vehicle that had mounted the pavement on North Street.

December:

Officers at the scene of a 6 vehicle collision on Dike road, after snowfall lead to icy road conditions.
