Bexhill man sentenced to 5 years for possessing 100 indecent images and sexual assault of minor

A local man from Bexhill, who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor and possessing over 100 indecent images of the same child, has been sentenced to five years in prison.

William Reid, 35, who resided on Dorset Road, Bexhill, received his sentencing at Lewes Crown Court on 2 August. Reid entered a guilty plea to two counts of sexual assault by touching and digital penetration and six counts of producing indecent images of a minor in 2021.

The victim, a girl under 18, cannot be publicly identified due to legal constraints. She was acquainted with Reid prior to the incident.

As part of his sentencing, Reid will now be registered as a sex offender for the entirety of his life. Additionally, he was handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). This order imposes strict limitations on Reid, restricting his access to females below the age of 18 and also significantly limiting his accessibility to any digital devices and systems for life.

Investigating officer Sergeant Ollie Bali said: “I would like to praise the young victim for the incredible bravery she has shown throughout this investigation. Reid’s conviction and Sexual Harm Prevention Order should ensure he is unable to cause any further harm to her, or any other child or young person in the community.

“We encourage all victims of sexual assault and sexual offences to report to us. We won’t judge you – we will support you and treat you with sensitivity and respect.”
