Update: Teenager in serious condition after stabbing in Brighton

Sussex Police have established a cordon on Queen’s Road in Brighton, with partial road closures in effect. Pedestrians are being redirected to use Frederick Place as authorities respond to an ongoing incident.

A spokeswoman for Brighton and Hove buses has issued a statement, indicating disruptions to their services: “Due to an incident on Queen’s Road, we are unable to serve Brighton Station and any of the stops on Queen’s Road. We would advise passengers to head to Imperial Arcade or Seven Dials for alternative transportation options.”

While details are still emerging A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services were called to Queens Road in Brighton at around 5pm on Thursday, October 5 to a report of a teenager having been stabbed.

“A 17-year-old boy has been taken to hospital by the ambulance service with serious injuries.”

Chief Inspector William Keating-Jones said: “An extensive search of the area is ongoing to locate a suspect and bring them into custody.

“The public can expect to see an increased police presence into the evening while this search and subsequent investigation is carried out.

“This incident took place in the centre of the city at a peak time, with a large number of witnesses. We are asking anyone who saw what happened or has relevant video footage – for example from a dashcam or their mobile phone – to call 101 or report online, quoting Operation Ash. Always call 999 if it is an emergency.”
