Brighton i360 Witness Alerts Coastguard, Leading to Sea Rescue

Wednesday afternoon 7th of Febuary 2024 at 2:44 pm, Newhaven Coastguard received an emergency page about an individual in distress in the water close to the Brighton i360. A search operation was immediately initiated, covering the maritime zone between the Palace and West piers, with Coastguard and Police teams working together.

The turning point in the rescue effort came when a vigilant member of the public noticed the person struggling in the water, quickly alerting the rescue teams. Coastguard officers, entered the chilly waters to reach and safely extract the individual from the perilous situation.

Upon the casualty’s safe retrieval from the water, Coastguard personnel provided immediate assistance, ensuring the individual remained stable and secure until the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) arrived at the scene to take over their care.

Following the successful handover of the rescued person to medical professionals, all involved rescue assets were stood down.
