Cat Found Taped in Bag and Abandoned in Angmering in ‘Sickening Act of Cruelty’

Wadars Animal Rescue appeals for witnesses after young male cat is discovered trapped in sealed bag on Roundstone Lane.

A young cat was found taped inside a plastic bag and abandoned at the side of a road in Angmering in what has been described as a “sickening and cowardly” act of animal cruelty.

The disturbing discovery was made around 9am on Tuesday, March 26, by a local woman walking along Roundstone Lane, near the entrance to a residential property.

At first glance, she believed the tightly-sealed bag was simply rubbish. But after noticing it moving, she quickly called the police. Officers advised her to open the bag – and to her horror, she discovered a terrified young male cat wrapped in plastic sheeting and dust cloths, trapped inside the drawstring bag which had been firmly sealed with green masking tape.

She immediately contacted Wadars Animal Rescue, who dispatched an animal operations officer to the scene. The cat was freed and taken straight to a vet for emergency assessment.

“One of the most sickening things I’ve seen” Tracy Cadman, Operations Director at Wadars, said: “This is one of the most sickening and cowardly things I’ve seen in many years. It was clearly a deliberate attempt to kill the cat.”

She added that the drawstring bag had the word ‘Dreamcatcher’ printed on the side and was filled with items commonly associated with decorating – including a paper dust sheet and a blue microfibre cloth stained with white paint.

Appeal for information
The young cat is now in the care of Wadars Animal Rescue while investigations continue.

The charity is urging anyone who recognises the cat, or who may have information about those responsible, to come forward. They can contact Wadars on 01903 247111 or email enquiries@wadars.co.uk.
