Ceasefire Now’: Chants Echo in Churchill Square Amidst Palestinian Solidarity Protest

In a significant display of political activism, a large group of Palestine campaigners staged a protest at Churchill Square Shopping Centre this Saturday. Starting their march at the iconic clock tower, the group made its way into the heart of the shopping center.

The protesters took a stand on the balconies above the ground floor. They unfurled a giant Palestinian flag from the top of the shopping centre, creating a dramatic scene. Alongside this, smaller Palestine flags and banners waved as the group chanted, “Ceasefire now” and “While you’re shopping, bombs are dropping!” – a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict far from Brighton’s shores.

A pivotal moment came when activists, dressed as judges, delivered a powerful speech originally by barrister Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh. The speech, which addressed accusations of genocide against Israel at the International Court of Justice, resonated with the crowd. A bold statement from a lawyer, “It is no longer acceptable to accept or excuse genocide,” echoed the sentiment of the day.

This peaceful protest aimed to raise awareness and call for a ceasefire in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
