Coastguard and Lifeboat Crews Rush to Aid of Struggling Canoeists on New Year’s Eve

Selsey Coastguard Team was paged on New Year’s Eve at 11:45 am due to reports of three individuals in canoes facing difficulties near Chichester Marina.

Both the Hayling Lifeboats and the Hayling Coastguard Team were dispatched to assist.

Upon arrival, an ambulance was called to the scene. One person, who had swallowed water and was extremely cold, was rescued and suspected of suffering from hypothermia. This individual was carried to the ambulance on a stretcher by Coastguard Officers and Lifeboat Crew for medical attention.

After ensuring the individual was under the care of paramedics, all units were instructed to return to their stations.

It’s important to remember, in case of an emergency at sea, on the beach, or along the coast, to call 999 and request the Coastguard.
