Crawley Station Reopens After Nearly Two Hour Closure Due to Vandalism

An act of vandalism caused the closure of Crawley station for nearly two hours on Tuesday (2nd May 2023) evening. Reports indicate that vandals broke into an empty building above the station and started throwing items out of the windows. For the safety of passengers, the station was closed, and trains were not stopping.

Southern Rail took to Twitter just after 18:45 to inform commuters of the situation, stating that due to vandalism, they were unable to call any services at Crawley station. The rail company advised passengers to use local Metro bus services to reach their destination.

Police attended the scene. However, it’s currently unknown whether the individuals involved in the vandalism were caught. A photo shared with Sussex News showed a big sent in the station canopy after a fire extinguisher was thorn through a window towards the platform.

The closure of the station caused major disruptions, inconveniencing many commuters. Fortunately, the station was able to reopen just after 8:30 pm, and train services resumed.
