Drugs seized after police officers smelled cannabis outside a Brighton property

After smelling what they believed to be cannabis outside a property on Ann Street, Brighton officers conducted a search and found a significant amount of Class A drugs at the address.

A man, 18, from Bromley was arrested at the scene for being concerned in supply of controlled drugs, Class A. There were additional concerns the address was being cuckooed. This is a term used when vulnerable people are exploited, their houses are taken over and used as a place from which to deal drugs. It is often a technique used by county lines gangs. The man has now been released on unconditional bail whilst investigations continue.

A Spokesperson for Sussex Police said “Officers in Brighton work with our partners on a daily basis daily in preventing vulnerable people from being cuckooed and arresting those who are taking advantage of these people.”

“If you have any concerns over a neighbour or someone you know who you think is being cuckooed, please call us. You can do this by calling 999 if you feel there is an immediate threat, 101 if not an emergency or you can also report online using our website.”
