Emergency Services Respond to Derelict House Fire in Eastbourne

Authorities are urging residents to come forward with information following a fire at a vacant property in Eastbourne during the early hours of Monday, January 13.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze on Kings Drive shortly before 1 a.m. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crews quickly arrived at the scene and successfully extinguished the fire. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Police Investigate Cause of Fire in Eastbourne

Police have joined forces with the fire service to determine the cause of the fire, treating it as a matter of priority. Officers are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and may have witnessed suspicious activity.

Residents with doorbell cameras, dash cams, or CCTV systems are being encouraged to review their footage for any unusual movements or events that could assist the investigation.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police said, β€œWe are working closely with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to investigate this incident. Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could prove crucial to our inquiries.”

Cllr David Small said ” It’s awful to see this site burnt out following a fire just past midnight this morning.

Thankfully no casualties are reported and huge credit must go to our fire crews from Eastbourne, Pevensey and Hailsham who responded so quickly and were able to make sure this fire wasn’t able to spread.

They were carrying out a re-inspection when I was there to try and establish the cause.

Many will already know this site was sold by the Council to a developer in 2023 who is looking to build here. This site needs to be made safe as soon as possible so I will be pushing for this to happen once the Police and Fire teams have concluded their work.”

How to Report Information

The police are asking anyone with relevant details or footage to come forward. Reports can be made online or by calling 101 and quoting serial 21 of 13/01.
