Exclusive Review: Brighton Comedy Garden at Preston Park

We was exclusively invited by the wonderful production team (who I apparently did a fringe review for one of their shows) to experience the opening night at Brighton Comedy Garden at Preston Park—and what a night it was.

As we arrived, the Big Top tent rose like a beacon in the middle of Preston Park’s rolling greenery, instantly setting the stage for an evening of laughter and mischief. The atmosphere was electric, with Brighton locals and visitors from all over filling the tent with a shared anticipation that felt like a festival but without the chaos of a massive crowd.

Seagulls added their own comedy, swooping overhead like cheeky gatecrashers, while the crowd buzzed with excitement. The production felt slick but still delightfully relaxed—like you’d stumbled upon a secret gig bursting with some of the funniest performers around.

The line-up was incredible, with each comedian bringing their own style, from razor-sharp observations to wonderfully offbeat routines that kept everyone guessing and laughing. One even said Brighton Beach isn’t a beach, making the crowd going into frenzy of booos. The evening mixed seasoned pros with bold new talents (well I’ve never heard of them so I’ll go with that) testing fresh material, creating a dynamic energy that never dipped.

Food and drink were a treat all on their own. Stalls lined the arena with all variety of food, plus a craft bar pouring the best beers, along with all the drinks you’d expect from a bar.. Queues moved quickly—no hour-long waits for a drink here—and everyone mingled happily in the outdoor area, sharing stories and swapping recommendations for who to see next.

Inside the Big Top, the seating was packed but surprisingly comfortable with lots of leg room, bringing everyone close enough to catch every grin and raised eyebrow. The show moved at a perfect pace, with quick set changes and a charismatic host who kept the momentum rolling between acts. There was a warm, communal vibe that made it feel like you were part of something special, especially when performers played off the crowd’s responses.

As the sun set, fairy lights twinkled across the park and the temperature dropped just enough to remind us we were in Brighton—layers were a must, if it wasn’t already too warm. But the Big Top kept everyone cosy, and the laughter never let up. From the perfectly curated line-up to the festival-meets-comedy-club atmosphere, the Brighton Comedy Garden delivered an unforgettable evening.

By the end, we’d laughed until our faces hurt, discovered new favourite comedians, and felt like we’d shared something unique with hundreds of strangers. The Brighton Comedy Garden isn’t just another comedy night—it’s a celebration of the city’s playful spirit and love of a good joke, all under the stars in one of its most beautiful parks. If you get the chance to go, don’t think twice. This is comedy done right.

Reviewers score : A comedy-blasting 5 star show.

Reviewers verdict: Each show has a different line up with some being sold out. You never know I may be invited back to do a review of another show. And yeah I don’t remember a single joke, well not ones I could ever repeat in public.
