Extensive Search for Missing Diver Near Eastbourne Called Off

Diver reported missing south of Eastbourne in English Channel.

HM Coastguard coordinated a large search on Saturday, 13th July in the English Channel south of Eastbourne after receiving a mayday message that a diver had gone missing. Lifeboats from Eastbourne were launched at 12:48 PM and headed to the area to carry out a search. They were later joined by the Newhaven Lifeboat at 3:12 PM, and later in the day, the Shoreham Lifeboat was launched around midnight.

The Coastguard helicopter was also mobilised and conducted an extensive search from the air, later joined by the Coastguard plane.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said this morning, “Despite extensive searches throughout the day and night, the search for the missing diver was called off last night with nothing found.”

A spokesman for Sussex Police said, “We assisted emergency services in the search for a diver in difficulty in the sea off the coast of Eastbourne on Saturday, July 13. Any further updates will be provided in due course.”
